… even if these three men—Noah, Daniel and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign LORD. – Ezekiel 14:14
Today’s Scripture Reading (October 7, 2009): Ezekiel 13
One of my core beliefs is that it is essential that we fail. And I mean fail personally. Not fail because someone else did something wrong – but fail because you tried something that just didn’t work out. It will be in those moments that we will learn the important lessons of life – but only if we are responsible for ourselves in those moments of failure.
This is Ezekiel’s point. We need to be responsible within our own lives – inside our own skin. No one else can get us to that point. I am not saved by anyone’s righteousness but my own. It is on me. We live in a culture where that line of responsibility seems to be blurred – but in front of God it can’t be. In so much of our lives we are built for community – absolutely can’t survive without it. But in regards to righteousness – it is on us.
And that is where our failures become so vitally important. It is in our failures that we see the things that we need to improve on - in regards to righteousness. It is in my failures that my personal weaknesses shine through.
Without failure we will never succeed. Without failure we will never be the people that God has designed us to be. Embrace your failures – and become responsible for yourself.

Amen!
We’re not in this by ourselves, but it takes personal decisions to follow God…
