One day Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, should I not try to find a home for you, where you will be well provided for? – Ruth 3:1
Today’s Scripture Reading (November 8, 2009) Ruth 3
We compartmentalize well. At least we think that we do. We have the ability to be different people almost in different situations. Sometimes the personalities slip out when they are not supposed to – but we seem to be pretty good at it. And one of the compartmentalized areas of our lives is religion. If we are honest, a number of us would probably admit that we have no idea what the concept of God has to do with the other areas of our life. So God lives in his compartment, and we take him out when we need him – or sprinkle him on an area of our life where we think he might be able to help. But for the most part – God stays in his area.
Reality is that God is about all of your life – all of it. And Ruth is proof. For every person that has at one point in their lives read a Harlequin romance and felt guilty about it – welcome to God’s Harlequin Romance– Ruth is it. God has something to say about all of our lives – even the romantic parts of it. We miss so much in this story because we don’t understand the culture, but suffice it to say that this is one sexy story. God is interested in it all.
We are heading one more time into that compartment we call worship. But God isn’t interested in the hour that you may have to give him today – he wants it all. Are you ready to give it?
